State Relations

The Office of Government and Community Relations develops and coordinates strategies for Virginia Tech on a broad array of state government issues, working with both the Virginia General Assembly and the executive branch. The office serves as a liaison to state agency directors and cabinet secretaries to promote faculty research and to develop technical assistance and research opportunities.

Directives from the Office of the Governor require the university to designate official spokespersons to communicate on behalf of the university with the General Assembly and to coordinate legislative requests through the the executive and legislative branches.  The university president and others specifically designated by the President are authorized spokespersons.  The Office of Government and Community Relations oversees all state legislative relations on behalf of the university which include coordinating all presentations to legislators, legislative committees, and letters and electronic communications to elected officials and their staff concerning policy or funding issues.
